ELEMENTS

The modern definition of landscaping involves three elements i.e. plants, terrain and structures.

Plants: Plants can be any. Ornamental, flowering, fruit bearing, etc.

Terrain: This can be any form of land created by digging, filling, water bed, floor, sand, etc.

Structures: use of fences, walls and other builds.

Other than these core elements, landscaping can include foundations, driveways, walkways, fountains and miniature ponds.

It is important to have good ideas that are closer to realisation.

Having an idea about landscaping styles is vital. Few of the different landscaping styles are Japanese style, country side, xeriscape which minimises water use in the landscaping, tropical, modern and many more.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Vision: It is important to have a clear vision with a good understanding of nature. Our vision should not clash with nature around.

Contrast: Visual aesthetics should provide a good variation in the form of colours, textures and other builds.
Proportions: Striking a good balance of the three landscaping elements is vital. Overcrowding of plants and over simplification should not be the outcome.

Centre: The centre of the landscaping should possess gravity. It should attract the people around towards it. The centre is to be done nicely with a lawn or a sands cape with a centrepiece like a nice fountain or an art piece.

Redundancy: It is important to resist the temptation of adding something out of place no matter how attractive or how much one likes it. Similarly, overuse of any element is not advisable.

Flow and Rhythm: Artistic sense should prevail over excitement. The landscaping should achieve harmony and the elements in it should have a flow, a rhythm. A holistic approach is necessary, a connection to the landscape instead of just the relative technical knowhow.
